Einstein Museum | Einsteinhaus
Kramg. 49, Bern Switzerland; Tel. 031.312.0091
If osmosis works for intelligence, then standing in Einstein's old apartment, now the Einstein Museum, might just transfer a bit of the wild-haired braniac's infamous cognitive juices to Bern visitors. Here, at the tender age of 26, he attempted to unravel the mysteries of the universe in his much-adhered Special Theory of Relativity. In addition to scholarly significance, the museum also features personal curios and manuscripts.
Museum of Fine Art | Kunstmuseum
Hodlerstrasse 12, Bern Switzerland; Tel. 031.311.0944
For fans of Paul Klee, the most famous Swiss Expressionist painter, Bern's Museum of Fine Art is a must-see Bern attraction. Dubbed "degenerative" art by the Nazis, Klee's work evokes balanced and fantastical dreamscapes and primitive, in the most complex sense of the world of course, representations of nature. Other permanent holdings include works by modern Swiss artists and classics of European art.
Musuem of Natural History | Naturhistorisches Museum
Bernastrasse 15, Bern Switzerland; Tel. 4131.350.7111
Bern's stream-lined Museum of Natural History is arguable one of Europe's best natural history musuems with insightful species presentations and probes into animal behavior. Made infamous through stereotype of the booze-toting shaggy superdog, housed in the museum is a stuffed version of the St. Bernard that saved nearly 50 people from an avalanche in 19th century.
Swiss Alpine Museum | Schweizerisches Alpines Musuem
Helvetiapl. 4, Bern Switzerland; Tel. 031.351.0434
Famous for art-mimics-life relief maps and topographical studies of Switzerland, taxodermically-immortal Alpine species and the history surrounding winter mountain sports, Bern's Alpine Museum is an interesting foray into life in the Swiss Alps. Located in a specially-commissioned building, the SAM was newly opened in 1993 to enlighten visitors to the kingdomly virtues of Switzerland's Alpines.
